Conference: Practical Reason and Metaethics April 21-23

John Brunero and I are running a conference on Practical Reason and Metaethics, here in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 21st to 23rd. Speakers include Michael Bratman (Stanford), Stephen Darwall (Yale), Jonathan Drake (Texas), Amelia Hicks (Kansas State), Chris Howard (Arizona), Sarah McGrath (Princeton), Barry Maguire (UNC), and Sigrún Svavarsdóttir (Tufts). There were over 75 submissions for the refereed program and we expect it to be a very good conference.

There will be a free conference dinner Friday night and a party Saturday, so please register if you are coming by sending an email to [email protected] stating that you plan on attending. There's no fee to attend.

Conference/CFP: Practical Reason and Metaethics

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln is hosting a conference on Practical Reason and Metaethics to be held April 22-23, 2016.  The invited speakers on the conference program are:

• Michael Bratman  (Stanford)

• Stephen Darwall  (Yale)

• Sarah McGrath  (Princeton)

• Sigrún Svavarsdóttir  (Tufts)

Call for Papers: Four additional papers will be selected though an anonymous review of submissions.  For each paper selected, the conference will contribute up to $800 to cover the travel and accommodations of the authors. Submissions are due December 1, 2015. More info below the fold.

We Need to be Better With Anonymous Refereeing

I've been doing a lot of refereeing for conferences, journals, prizes and such and a recent discussion with some of my co-referees leads me to want to post here about anonymous refereeing.  My main aim here will be to list some of the ways authors screw up in anonymizing papers and also to raise a question or two about trickier points of making a paper truly anonymous.  But I want to state out front that I think all refereed conferences should require that papers be anonymized when they are submitted. I know that in a small profession we will often have some idea who wrote papers, but I think we still ought to do the best we can within that constraint. (Continued below the fold.)

Weighing Reasons in Princeton - November 30 to December 1

Errol Lord and Barry Maguire are organizing a two day workshop (Nov. 30- Dec. 1) dedicated to developing/criticizing systematic accounts of weighing reasons.

Invited Speakers: Ruth Chang (Rutgers), Stephen Darwall (Yale), John Horty (Maryland), Stephen Kearns (Florida State) & Daniel Star (Boston University), Joseph Raz (Oxford/Columbia), T.M. Scanlon (Harvard)  There is also a call for papers which are due by September 15th.  There's a link to the workshop website below the fold.

Nebraska Conference on Practical Reasons and Metaethics - April 20-22 2012.

David Sobel and I have been working to put together a conference on Practical Reason and Metaethics. (A highly original title, I know, but somehow strangely apt.) It will be held about a year hence, on April 20-22, 2012 at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. We will be treated to talks by Nomy Arpaly, Michael Bratman, Jamie Dreier, Peter Railton, Connie Rosati, Mark Schroeder, and Michael Smith.  We also are saving two time slots for blind refereed papers. The submitters of the two chosen papers will have reasonable expenses (up to $1000) of getting here and staying for the conference picked up by by us.
